Reference and Information Services
Reference and Information Services are provided to assist library users in searching and retrieving legal materials and the needed information fast and effectively . Any reference enquiry can be forwarded directly or via telephone or email to the Reference Librarian or staff on duty at the Resource Centre service counter.
Current Awareness Services
Current Awareness Services are provided to inform the library users on the latest information available in the Resource Centre. The Resource Centre distributes bimonthly acquisitions list of new books, contents listing of law and management journals as well as newspaper cuttings on legal and civil service matters. It also provides legislation indexes to assist users in their information search.
Updating Of Legislations
Updating of legislations is an on-going service whereby Federals Acts, State Enactments, PU(A) and PU which are the primary legal source of reference are continually updated after coming into force. The Federal and State Legislation Indexes are also compiled to facilitate quick legal information search. The legislation collections of the Attorney General, Solicitor General and Solicitor General II are also updated by the Resource Centre for easy reference.
Digitization of Library Materials
To facilitate research and effective selection of library materials, the Resource Centre undertakes the digitization project of all books in the library collection available in searchable PDF format which can be accessed through its Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) at AGC's website http://www.agc.gov.my. Information that has been digitized include the book cover, preface, table of contents and abstract to assist in information search and retrieval.
Knowledge Sharing Session Services
- In our effort to encourage reading habits and knowledge sharing ,the Resource Centre have value added sessions as follows:
- Opening of Coffee/Tea Corner with tidbits at Resource Centre on 10 July 2009 to encourage reading and discussions.
- Knowledge sharing activities sessions on every Friday of the month starting with CD Preview of Communication Skills : What Everyone Needs to Know at the Resource Centre's Digital Library on 17 July 2009.
- Informal Talks sessions at Resource Centre Speaker's Corner, starting with discussions on High Court Judgement Anwar Ibrahim (Sect. 51A) dan Poligamy on 24 July 2009 followed by an evening talk on Sembang Petang Sahsiah Diri, Pekerja Cemerlang on 31 July 2009. This will enhance different opinions on current issues.
Lending and Returning Services
Staff and officers of the Attorney General's Chambers are required to register as members of the Resource Centre to enable them to borrow six (6) books for a duration of two weeks. Membership is open only to staff and officers of the Attorney General's Chambers. Returning of books can be made at anytime including after office hours by using the book drop services provided at the lobby and basement of the building.
Inter library Loans
The Resource Centre provides interlibrary loans through the Publications Delivery System (PDS) for staff and officers who wish to borrow books or obtain copies of documents/articles from other libraries. Request for this service can be made through the Reference Librarian or staff on duty at the service counter.
Photocopies of library materials especially Acts, Ordinances and old Enactments are provided on request for officers and staff of the Attorney General's Chambers in their course of work, subject to the provisions of the Copyright Act 1987.
