The Law Library of the Attorney General's Chambers of Malaysia was first established in mid 1948 and is one of the oldest and most significant law library in the country. Renamed the Abu Yusuf Yaqub Al-Khindi Library of the Attorney General's Chambers of Malaysia, it is responsible for giving legal information, reference services and updating legislations and legal indexes. The library provides collection development, preservation and digitization of legal collections, training on legal online databases and current awareness services for staff and officers of Attorney General's Chambers.
The main objective of the Al-Khindi Library is to provide quality, efficient and effective reference and information services to all staff and officers of the Attorney General's Chambers and the State Legal Advisors throughout the country.
The Al-Khindi Library is committed to provide reference and information services that are prudent, comprehensive, fast and effective with reference to all forms of information resources and to ensure the updating of legislations is of high quality with the latest amendments.
The Al-Khindi Library has a collection of more than 91,366 volumes consisting of books, law reports, serials and statutes. The library collection are catalogued and classified according to Moys Classification and Thesaurus for Legal Materials 4th ed. with subject headings based on The Library of Congress Subject Headings. The titles available in the Al-Khindi Library collection can be accessed through its Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC) at AGC's website http://www.agc.gov.my and further enhanced with digitized books. In line with the rapid advancement in Information Communication and Technology (ICT), the Al-Khindi Library provides and encourages the use of online legal databases for legal officers such as Lexis Malaysia, Westlaw, CLJ Legal Network, LawNet, Supreme Court Cases (India) Online, House of Commons UK Online, and Singapore & Malaysia Case Law Library CD-ROMs.
The resource centre extends its opening hours everyday from Mondays to Fridays up to 5.30 pm since 29 June 2009 to fulfill the information needs of all Attorney General's Chambers staffs whilst upgrading the reference and lending services. The details are as follows:
